For the whole month of May, the town of Saint-Pierre celebrates two major events in the history of Martinique and the town of Saint-Pierre: the eruption of Mount Pelée, which destroyed the island's former capital, and the abolition of slavery, decreed following a slave revolt in the town of ...Saint-Pierre.
Far from being a simple commemoration, it celebrates the city, its assets, its wealth and its past gluttony. Above all, it's a celebration of arts and culture, featuring the former capital.
It's an opportunity to see exhibitions, attend concerts, conferences or sports tournaments, or take part in hikes.
